Breastfeeding and exercise
Quick answer: According to ACOG, exercise does not affect milk production or composition, and feeding or expressing milk before a workout helps avoid discomfort.
What ACOG says
ACOG's exercise after pregnancy FAQ: "If you are breastfeeding, feed your baby or express your milk before your workout to avoid any discomfort that may come from engorged breasts. Wear a bra that fits well and gives plenty of support to protect your breasts. Have a bottle of water handy and take several sips during your workout." Among the benefits of postpartum exercise it lists: "It may help prevent postpartum depression." and "It relieves stress."

Committee Opinion 804: "Regular aerobic exercise in lactating women has been shown to improve maternal cardiovascular fitness without affecting milk production, composition, or infant growth." It adds that lactating women "should ensure adequate hydration before commencing physical activity."
